A Word From Pastor Deryl...
One Step Away
Lest I think that I've arrived or that I am somehow above trouble, it is important for me to
remember that I am just "one step away".
One careless word away from causing irreversible psychological impairment that could
cripple a plethora of positive possibilities budding in the life of a precious little one.
One Step Away
One curious adventure away from testing the tempting taste of trees, you know what I mean,
trees that will tantalize my senses and over time become my preoccupation- so that my song
becomes, "trees in the morning, trees in the evening, trees in the afternoon".  If I am not
careful this preoccupation will preclude my purpose, void my vision, and destroy my destiny.
One Step Away
One conniving move away from ruining my marriage by taking that second look, winking that
eye, or engaging that conversation. If I am not careful these seemingly innocent gestures
may be reciprocated, making one-way lust into a two-way street collision of dreams that
lead to an ultimate nightmare, annulling vows and shattering the solemn promise.
One Step Away
One calculated risk away from squandering the family finances on lavish living and public
"fronting", trying to be what I am not, and live like those that are unhappy anyway.
One Step Away
One credulous thought away from believing that life is about me, and that I don't need God.
On the other hand, I could be at risk for thinking that all I need is God and discount people.
This risk could determine the very direction of my destiny according to the words of Jesus
when talking about the treatment of people in need, "as you have done it to the least of
these ... you have done it unto me…"(Mt.25:40).  The book also makes this profound
statement: "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar.  For anyone who
does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen."(1
John 4:20)
I'm one step away from being in a mess!  Watch your step!
